By The Water
Is there any better place to be in the summer than by the water? Personally, it's my favourite place to be all the time, but during the summer, it's a little more magical.
It doesn't matter if you're standing by the ocean, a lake, a river or even just a fountain, being near water can be calming, soothing, inspirational and therapeutic. A theory has actually been developed about the science behind the benefits of being near the water: the "blue mind theory" which was coined by marine biologist Wallace Nichols.
Here are a few ways that being near (and especially living near) a body of water can be beneficial to your health:
By watching the flow, the waves, the ripples, the movement, water allows us to be in the present moment, to feel humble and to feel connected with something bigger
Because water allows us to be in the present moment, it induces a meditative, mindful state
Being around water invokes creativity and inspiration, regardless of your craft, thanks to the calming effects that water can have on our minds and bodies
Being near water while exercising can naturally increase its benefits. It definitely gives you a much better mental boost than running on a treadmill in your basement
We absorb many positive ions throughout the day (many comes from electrical appliances) and this can seriously affect our mental and physical bodies. Water contains negative ions which balances it all out.
Don’t live by the water? Don’t worry! I’m sure you can find some kind of water source around you. Go for a hike and find a waterfall! Even sitting near a fountain will do! Any type of moving, flowing water will absolutely have a positive effect on your mind and your body.
