The Link Between Chakras and Allergies
Spring is the prime season for allergies and many of us are looking for relief. But what if I told you that you could easily control how allergies affect you by doing some simple chakra work?
The root chakra is the first energy centre of the body to develop and becomes the foundation for all of the other chakras. The root is about safety and survival, which is essential for health. Therefore, this chakra needs to be stable so that the others can all be aligned and function properly.
The root chakra, which forms from conception through age 7, can be the centre of imbalances which stem from unconscious fears about safety. Eventually, these fears can manifest as physical or mental illness. Exploring this chakra can help us understand why we are prone to specific health issues. The issues that can be associated with the root are anxiety and immune system imbalances.
Allergies and autoimmune conditions are physiological expressions of an immune system that is confused. Rather than limiting its efforts to attacking foreign invaders, such as bacteria and viruses inside the body, the immune system reacts to the environment, which can lead to allergic reactions.
While allergies can be alleviated with the help of medication and lifestyle change, exploring and supporting the root chakra can be extremely beneficial as well.
There can be a variety of reasons as to why your root chakra is imbalanced and many ways to rebalance it along with your other chakras. However, healing the root chakra is a process of working through fears and learning to trust that it is safe to be who you truly are. Here are a few practices to get you started, although you may want to get in touch with a health and wellness coach or a naturopath to help you further.
Physical healing tip: Stand in mountain pose.
Mountain pose (or tadasana) is a simple yoga pose and is best done outside, barefoot on the grass if possible. Focus on the feel of your feet against the ground. Lift and spread your toes and the balls of your feet. Then lay them back down. Rock back and forth on the soles of the feet. Soften the knees but engage the legs. Create a strong foundation. Once the foundation feels solid, engage the belly, open the chest, relax the shoulder blades, and imagine the crown of your head lengthening up toward the sky. Stay in this pose for three minutes.
Mental healing tip: Make a list of your top 3 fears.
Make a list and then note where they came from and how they affect your life. Also consider what would be different in your life if you were not affected by these fears?
Spiritual healing tip: Picture your roots.
Close your eyes and visualize the roots of a tree extending from the base of your spine into the center of the earth. Visualize all of the fearful energy in your body draining down the roots into the earth. Allow it to drain out of your body. When you feel completely drained of this fearful energy, visualize yourself chopping the roots of the tree off of your body so that you are freed.
