In my opinion, peaches are the perfect summer fruit. Extremely diverse and always delicious, peaches not only have their taste going for them, but they’re also quite good for you. 

Let’s look at a few of the reasons you should enjoy peaches all summer long.

1. Peaches help strengthen the immune system.
Your immune system needs certain nutrients to function properly. Two of these nutrients, vitamin C and zinc, just so happen to be found in peaches. Not only do they help with wound healing but they also have antioxidant properties which help fight infections. 

2. Peaches are anti-aging.
Speaking of zinc, it also has anti-aging properties. Peaches, when either eaten or put on the skin, have actually been shown to be a great natural moisturizer and it’s been reported that peaches have a positive effect on the scalp to reduce hair loss.

3. Peaches promote healthy bones and teeth.  
Peaches also contain phosphorous, which helps strengthen bones and teeth and can aide in the prevention of some bone diseases.

4. Peaches protect the nervous system.
Not only have peaches been shown to decrease neurodegenerative disorders such as Alzheimer’s disease, it’s also been show to decrease the risk of macular degeneration, which is the leading cause of vision loss in people over the age of 60.

Recipe: Oven Dried Peach Chips

  • 2 Peaches (Peel if peaches are not organic)

  1. Preheat oven to 200F.  Line a baking sheet with parchment.

  2. Wash and dry peaches.  Cut in half and remove the pit.

  3. Peel peaches if you prefer to not eat the peel or if they are not organic.

  4. Slice peaches in 1/8 inch slices.

  5. Place peach slices on parchment lined baking sheet, leaving space between each slice.

  6. Bake at 200 F for approximately 2 hours, until the top of the peaches are dry.

  7. Peel the peach slices from the parchment paper and flip over. Continue to bake for another 30 minutes to an hour until fully dehydrated.

  8. Remove the dried peach slices from the oven and allow to cool completely.  Store in an airtight container at room temperature. The peach chips can be stored for several months at room temperature without spoiling.
