High Vibe Q&A: Kendall
City: Pittsburgh, PA
Occupation: Educator at Lululemon & Blogger
1. When did you start blogging?
I stared blogging at then end of November, so it has been about 6 months.
2. What inspired you to begin?
Honestly, I was just fed up with feeling jealous of people doing things that I always wished I could do. I got to the point where I was tired of wishing other people's lives were my own, so I made it my life. I was afraid of putting myself out there but the fear of being myself was overshadowed by my desire to be a blogger and connect with people, so I took the leap!
3. You blog about several topics: beauty, skincare, fitness, lifestyle… which category is your favourite and why?
Hmm.. although I LOVE beauty and skincare and those were the topics that I wanted to create my blog around, I really enjoy writing lifestyle posts. Even though I am 24, I feel like I have a lot of wisdom and experience to share with the world. I've dealt with bad breakups and bad friends and I feel like I have advice to offer to other people that may be struggling. Also writing lifestyle posts is my catharsis because it allows me to reflect and continue to grow as a person even years after the fact.
4. A difficult question for a makeup lover: if you had to choose ONE beauty product for the rest of your life, which would it be?
Oh man, that really is a tough one! I would have to say concealer, because as I get older I realize that that is the one product that I will still put on even when I'm running out the door and don't have time to do my full routine.
5. How would you describe your style?
I would say that my style is definitely classic with a splash of edgy and a dash of trendy, haha. I love good basics but I like to dress them up with a leather jacket (edgy) or snakeskin booties (trendy) :)
6. You’re a self-proclaimed book worm. What are you currently reading?
Currently I have been on serious self-help kick, so right now I am reading "Get Your Shit Together" by Sarah Knight, but I'm close to being finished, so next up I am planning to read "Big Magic" by Elizabeth Gilbert.
7. You state on your Instagram bio that you’re obsessed with true crime. How did that obsession get started?
After I read this question, I took a moment to reflect and really think about how that obsession started and I really can't remember. I have always been a huge fan of horror/thriller shows and movies, so one day I think I stumbled upon the Investigation Discovery channel and it was pretty much love at first sight. When I realized that there was entire channel that played nothing but true crime ALL DAY LONG I was hooked.
8. Do you have any true crime documentaries, podcasts or books to recommend?
I LOVE My Favorite Murder by Georgia Hardstark and Karen Kilgariff. It is a comedy podcast where two women talk about true crime and it is great! I also listened to Dr. Death and really enjoyed that one, as well as, Serial and Up and Vanished. As for true crime books, I read "I'll Be Gone in the Dark" by Michelle McNamara and it was AMAZING. I read the whole thing in like two days. I highly highly recommend. Lastly, some true crime documentaries that are amazing would be Evil Genius, Making a Murderer, The Ted Bundy Tapes, The Staircase, Murder Mountain, The Confession Tapes, Amanda Knox, and Killer Kids. These are all found on Netflix :)
9. Where do you aspire to be in five years?
This is a tough one. In 5 years I will be 29 and I honestly have no idea where I will be, but I just know how I want to feel and that is happy. I have learned that worrying about what other people think will only steal your happiness and I have a feeling that my life won't play out like other people think it should. I aspire to be at a job that I love and that brings me joy, whether that be in retail or the corporate world or as an entrepreneur. Who knows! I'm excited to see where life takes me and I look forward to hopefully updating you in 5 years! :)
