Spring Renewal Rituals
I firmly believe that every new beginning should be celebrated with a ritual of some kind. The new year, the new month, the new moon, the new week, the new day… they should all be recognized and appreciated. [ Why do you think I’ll be launching a newsletter at the beginning of each month? To celebrate a fresh start, of course! ]
The new season falls into one of those fresh starts that we should honor with a ritual. Don’t worry… I’m not going to have you sipping moon water while dancing naked around a bonfire of fallen birch trees at midnight [ but hey, if that’s your thing, dance away! ]
New beginnings, such as a new season, can be celebrated in so many different ways. I’m here to make a few suggestions. Let inspiration be your guide and learn what works for you.
First of all, let’s talk about the spring equinox.
What is it exactly? Of course, it’s the first day of the spring season, but it’s a time when the sun shines directly on the equator, bringing balance. The days become longer, the sun shines brighter and everything around us blooms and flourishes. It’s a rebirth, a rejuvenation; a time to plant new ideas and nurture them as they grow. It’s a transition between a sleepier, slower season into one of renewed energy as everything comes back to life.
Spring is quite clearly a special time, so how can we celebrate it?
Declutter your living space
It’s no wonder that “spring cleaning” is such a popular thing. It’s the perfect time of year to clean out your house and clear out anything that you’re not using anymore. Scrub, wash, donate, get rid of and organize all the things!
Clear out mental and emotional clutter
Physical clutter isn’t the only thing around your house that you should get rid of. You should definitely focus on getting rid of some emotional and mental clutter. Meditation is a fantastic place to start. Other methods can include journaling along with forgiving others and yourself.
Start a new hobby
What have you always wanted to try but just never found the time to do? Maybe now’s the time to give it a shot! Hiking? Growing your own garden? Beekeeping? Antiquing? Cheese making? Photography? Volunteering? Anything!
Spend time outdoors
As the temps start to get warmer, it’s the perfect time to get out and spend time outside. Whether it’s for physical activity or simply BEING outside, start doing it more often! Eat your meals outside, read outside, listen to music/podcasts outside. The fresh air and sunlight will work miracles after a long winter.
Simplify your life
Because why make life any more difficult than it has to be? I really like this list of 72 Ideas to Simplify Your Life by zen habits.
