February New Moon

The new moon is the first phase of the moon cycle. It’s commonly known in many cultures as a symbol of new beginnings. If you didn’t already know, I’m a huge fan of new beginnings. New year, new month, new moon, new week, new day… I like to celebrate these with rituals.

The new moon provides a reset to renew our goals, set our desires and create new intentions. It’s as though this cycle symbolizes darkness and fertile ground and we simply plant the seeds for what we desire.

The new moon phase lasts approximately three days. I decided to do my ritual on the first day so that I could spend all three days reflecting on my intentions and my goals. It just gets me in the right mindset.

My new moon ritual doesn’t always look the same. This time around, I celebrated on a Sunday so I had plenty of time to create whatever ritual I desired. Here’s what it looked like:

Step 1: Epsom Salt & Geranium Rose Bath
The first step allowed me to completely relax. Baths always do the trick. And the Geranium Rose essential oils along with the soothing Epsom salts were the perfect combination. I didn’t read or mess around on my phone. I just put on some soothing music and relaxed.

Step 2: Sage + Palo Santo
Next, I cleansed the energy of my space with Sage and then soothed it with Palo Santo. I simply lit one and walked around my home, allowing the smoke to fill in all corners. Then I lit the other and did the same.

Step 3: Meditation w/ Crystals
This all led to the meditation. I purposely collected a few crystals: amethyst for attracting good vibes, clear quartz for clearing the vibe and rose quartz to bring in love vibes. I followed a specific 10-minute new moon guided meditation which had me focus on a certain feeling I would like to feel in the following month.

Step 4: Journal
I then journaled about the meditation: how I felt, what I focused on and what I desired in the next 30 days. Writing these down immediately and being able to refer back to them throughout the month is beneficial. It acts as a constant reminder and, every time I go back and read these entries, I can feel the energy that was put into those words.

Step 5: Tarot Card Spread
I usually do a full 6-card new moon tarot card spread, but yesterday it just didn’t feel right. Instead, I decided to just pull ONE card and have that symbolize the following month. I chose the Page of Pentacles which represents manifestation, financial opportunity and skill development. Fitting? I definitely think so!

And that’s it! Simple, right? It really was and it made me feel straight up magical. Since this is something I do every month (I also do a FULL moon ritual every month as well), I don’t want to overcomplicate it.

Have you ever done a new moon ritual? If not, would you give it a shot?
